Summary
A 7-year-old neutered male Miniature Poodle was presented with a persistent dry cough lasting more than one month.

Patient Background
A 7-year-old neutered male Miniature Poodle was presented with a persistent dry cough lasting more than one month. The coughing episodes were more frequent during exercise and excitement. Previous treatments with antibiotics and antitussives resulted in only temporary improvement.
Diagnostic Challenge
Thoracic radiographs revealed no obvious pulmonary lesions, and cardiac evaluation was unremarkable. The veterinarian suspected an upper airway or tracheal abnormality, but conventional diagnostic methods could not provide direct visualization of the airway lumen.
Determining whether the cough originated from inflammation, structural collapse, or foreign material remained challenging without further diagnostic insight.
Endoscopic Intervention
To further investigate the cause, respiratory endoscopy (tracheoscopy) was performed using a JeetVet Veterinary Endoscope. The portable endoscopic system allowed controlled and detailed examination of the upper airway under light anesthesia.
Endoscopic Findings
- ▪️Mild tracheal inflammation
- ▪️Localized tracheal narrowing consistent with early tracheal collapse
- ▪️Increased mucus accumulation along the tracheal wall
- ▪️No foreign bodies or masses detected
These abnormalities could not be confidently identified through imaging alone, highlighting the diagnostic value of direct airway visualization.
Treatment and Outcome
Based on the endoscopic diagnosis, the treatment plan was adjusted to include anti-inflammatory therapy, weight management, and activity modification. Within two weeks, the frequency and severity of coughing episodes decreased significantly.
Follow-up communication with the owner confirmed sustained clinical improvement without recurrence of respiratory symptoms.
Clinical Value of Respiratory Endoscopy
- ▪️Direct assessment of tracheal structure and mucosal condition
- ▪️Differentiation between inflammatory and structural airway disorders
- ▪️Reduced reliance on repeated empirical medication trials
- ▪️Improved diagnostic confidence and client communication
The use of a portable Veterinary Endoscope enables respiratory evaluation to be performed efficiently in everyday clinical practice, without the need for referral-level facilities.
Conclusion
Chronic cough in dogs often masks underlying airway pathology that may not be detected through imaging alone. Respiratory endoscopy provides veterinarians with reliable, real-time insight into airway conditions, supporting precise and evidence-based clinical decisions.
This case demonstrates how JeetVet Veterinary Endoscope supports accurate respiratory diagnosis through practical, minimally invasive endoscopic solutions.
